This activity is approved for a total of 3.0 hours of MCLE credit by the State Bar of California (1 hour competence issues, 1 hour recognition and elimination of bias, and 1 hour legal ethics). The FBA certifies this activity conforms to the standards for approved education activities prescribed by the rules and regulations of the State Bar of  California governing mandatory minimum continuing legal education.

Registration fee includes dinner.

The Civil Litigation Section of the Foothills Bar Association will present the MCLE program

“Candid Comments From the Bench:  How to Impress Your Judge”
with San Diego County Superior Court Judges Eddie Sturgeon and Joan Lewis

on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, from 12:00 to 1:15 p.m.
at BJ’s Restaurant in Grossmont Center in La Mesa

You will have an opportunity to speak with two of San Diego County’s most respected judges, hear what works best, and what does not work well, in their respective departments, and learn how you can better represent your clients before the court.  Judge Sturgeon will also discuss a pilot program at the Hall of Justice to help the court more effectively deal with the growing burden of law and motion matters.

The seminar is free to members of the Foothills Bar Association and only $10.00 for nonmembers. You may order lunch from BJ’s menu, but do not have to.  Walk in registrants will be accommodated as space allows.

“Data Security and Your Practice” (All Law Sections)

This presentation will be of interest to all practice areas, attorneys and staff.

Our speakers are two local technology data specialists, Deena Mayne and James Mal.  Ms. Mayne, the principal of Freebird Media, is a website developer and business technology consultant. James Mal is a business technology and data security specialist with DaaSle, Inc., a technology consulting and management firm.

Topics will include:

  • Current best practices for data safety: in office, online and remote access.
  • What is Ransomware and how do we prevent it from happening to our firm?
  • What technology is currently available to make business data safety easier, more automated,
    and with the least amount of downtime?

Thursday, October 12th, from 12:00-1:10 p.m., the Criminal Law section of the Foothills Bar Association will host the MCLE event, “Debunking Myths: Pointers on getting along with the D.A.’s Office.”  Deputy District Attorney and Chief of the East County Branch, Michele Linley, will be the speaker.  The event will take place in Department 10 of the East County Courthouse.  Bring your lunch!  The event is free to FBA Members.
